Poschinger Glassworks since 1568
A journey through glassmaking, encompassing workshops, gardens and an internationally renowned museum.
In and around this small-scale production site, in the former glass workshops, glass artists keep the traditions of different disciplines alive with glass fusing and lead glazing, glass and artistic painting, glass engraving, glass cutting, flat glass design and glass blowing. Based on the cooperation between the production site, glass-blowers and refinement workshops, almost all techniques used in modern glass manufacturing are on show, as are the diverse aspects of and approaches to glass art.
On the grounds of the Poschinger glassworks, surrounding the Frauenau Glass Museum, by the Eisch glassworks and on the floodplains of the Flanitz, a monothematic sculpture park was created in 2010 as a world first: the Glass Gardens of Frauenau. On more than 20,000 square meters of landscape-designed space, both internationally-renowned as well as regionally-based glass artists showcase 30 monumental glass sculptures. The Glass Gardens are open all year, and admission is free.
Frauenau State Glass Museum takes visitors on a journey through the history of glass from its origins in Mesopotamia to the present day. The permanent exhibition presents an extensive collection of unique exhibits of international acclaim, while the “Glass of the Modernity” department focuses on artistic glass from the 20th and 21st centuries. In addition, the museum gives visitors an insight into the cultural importance of glass for the neighbouring states of Bavaria and Bohemia. Open: Tuesday to Sunday 9 AM to 5 PM, closed Mondays.
